Once again he describes patrols, ambushes and contacts, situations of certain death, dealings with the enemy and relationships with his Ovambo colleagues as he did in his previous two books except now he also demonstrates what it was like to be a killing machine in the heat of battle while becoming a loving husband and father and having to alternate his life and mindset between surviving the fighting, murder and mayhem as well as family life. Once again Durand simply tells it as he experienced it without pulling any stops.
